River check raise vs bluffy opponent | Print |  Email

The table has been pretty fast, as the fish is playing very loose aggressive, but bluffing too many pots with weird patterns.

6max, I m sitting on a 8K stack, villain has 8K too.

Blinds are 10/20, I am UTG with

I raise to 70, and our loose bluffy opponent calls from the button , which he would do with a range of virtually any 2 cards.

Flop comes

With a double gutshot, and a runner runner flush draw I decide to bet 150 to build the pot, for two reasons:

  • I have the initiative preflop, and I might be able to take it down right there
  • I also want to build the pot in case I hit later on against the weak player...

The opponent min-raises to 300, which I instacall of course.

Turn is the

With a top pair to go with my draw, s check raise might be the best line with a 100 big blinds starting stack, but here I am risking too much with a draw out of position , so a check to control the size of the pot seems in order.

I do check, villain bets 600, I call.

River is the , giving me the straight.

I think that betting here would be criminal against such an opponent, because he is going to have air so many times that letting him bluff will be much more profitable.

So I check, he bets 2000, then I shove all in .

He folds, I think I extracted the maximum from him.
