Effective stacks are $2000. Blinds are 10/20.

One player limps UTG, two other players limp behind, I raise AA to $140, the second limper calls.

I put him on a range of small pairs (80% of the time) and maybe some medium suited connectors (20% of the time).

This player doesn't limp call often out of position against tough opposition, but he was losing around 3 buy ins already, and was clearly playing more hands to chase his losses, and was also chasing a lot of bad draws.

Flop came

It's a pretty dry flop, and my opponent checks. If I bet, he will probably check raise with any set, and will muck all small and medium pocket pairs that didn't hit.I will also extract more from 88, 77, or 66 (maybe from ace high) if I check the flop, and bet on later streets.

All in all, not a lot of value in betting.I decide to check behind.

Turn is a

It completes 2 straight draws (that are very unlikely) and brings a backdoor flush draw. Now Villain bets $320.I call to control the pot.

River is the , completing the rainbow.

Now, villain bets out 800, which is definitely a value bet. So, it reduces his range to 33,55,99,77, maybe A9 suited (because he was tilting!!!) 46, or 86.

Once again, calling preflop with the connectors was a rare occurence with this opponent, so raising the river all in was clearly the best option against his whole range.

I shoved all in, he snap called with 86 of hearts for the winning straight, but the hand was played correctly from beginning to the end.

I like the push, your hand must look like a badly played AK for him and if he's tilting he's certainly going to look you up with any 2 pairs. The straight is indeed unlikely. 777 or 97 huge part of his range.

Your check on the flop is strange.
"not a lot of value in betting", but a lot of risks in checking... and you won't extract a lot on the later streets from pocket pairs that didn't hit sets.
